I attended a conference about prayer a few weeks ago. The speaker helped us understand the power of unity in prayer by teaching us about resonance. When two tuning forks are tuned to the same sound wave, one can be struck and the other, without being struck, picks up the sound of the first and continues to sound, even when the first is silenced. Their combined sound is greater than the sum of both individual forks.
When a weight is put on one of the forks, it will not pick up the sound of the other. When the forks are each struck but tuned to different frequencies, they make an entirely different sound. It is a pulsing sound that is not restful but dissonant.
This leads me to consider not only “resonance” with one another in prayer circles, but how our individual souls may be tuned to one spiritual realm or another. Our own agreement with that spiritual place leads to the amplification of activity of either good or evil in the second heaven (more on second heaven).
Kingdoms Clashing and Dissonance
The pandemic clarified for me that we are in a spiritual battle. In the Christian worldview, there are only two spiritual kingdoms, the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. They are not equal in strength, for the kingdom where the Holy God reigns can never be shaken. The kingdom of darkness, however, does have much access to the earth. The Scriptures are given (in part) to help humanity learn how to access the Kingdom of Light, where God, who is perfect love and our Creator, reigns.
My current understanding is that the spiritual kingdoms are purely good and purely evil (with the good one being much stronger and eternal). The earthly realm is a mix of both. Humans have freewill and make choices for both good and evil. They are made in the image of God and yet still entertain darkness. There are also forces beyond ourselves, both good and evil, at work.
Kingdom of Light and Life
…God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
I [Jesus] came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. (1 John 10:10b)
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You. (Psalm 89:14)
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
These are just a few examples of what is taught about the realm of the Most High God. It is characterized by:
creativity
holiness and righteousness (in alignment with God’s laws)
life and health
love
truth
justice
honoring of the freewill of humans
mercy, grace and forgiveness
joy
freedom
peace
Kingdom of Darkness and Death
[Jesus speaking to a particular group] You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. (John 10:10a)
[Jesus took on flesh] that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. (Hebrews 2:14-15)
The Bible also teaches that Satan, the ruler of this dark realm, appears as an angel of light. He is in rebellion against God and wants us to be in rebellion, too. When humanity worships anything but God (money, Baal and other gods, self, etc…), we live according to his dark kingdom.
The realm of Satan and evil is characterized by:
death, violence, destruction
mutilation of the body
addiction
fear and anxiety
control and manipulation
sexual immorality
deception
false accusation
turmoil, fighting, jealousy, rage, etc.
I believe the reason we are in such upheaval on the earth is because we humans have mostly agreed with darkness. Doing so has given greater power to evil in spiritual realms, which directly affects our natural earthly realm. However, God, in His mercy, is coming in for a rescue of humanity. The battle is intense and the disruptive dissonance in the spirit realm is felt by all.
To What Are We Tuned?
God has always seen those whose hearts agree with Him and love His ways. He draws near to them. When we seek truth, we will find it. However, beware if that truth offends you! God’s ways are far higher than ours and He often offends the mind in order to reveal the heart; do we really want what He offers? It means we have to let go of beliefs held dear to embrace new ones, and of familiar dark paths to turn to light.
He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. (Isaiah 53:5-6).
For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:16-17)
Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light… (John 3:20-21)
Yom Kippur and Millions of Voices
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, was last Saturday, October 12. This is the most holy of Jewish holidays, established by God in ancient times as a day of fasting and repentance. Jews around the world fasted and prayed and sought the forgiveness of God, inviting Him to be near through the coming year.
Honoring their Jewish spiritual roots and recognizing the plight of our current day, Christians gathered in Washington DC on Yom Kippur this year. More than 375,000 people were at our capitol and millions more joined online (including those from 50 countries). I was one who joined online. We fasted and repented before God, asking Him to forgive us for our agreement with darkness and to heal our families, our country and the world. (9-hr replay).
I believe that God, already having compassion upon us and looking for our agreement in spirit, received our prayers. Our resonance with Him brought strength to the light that is being released upon the world. It will shine in dark places, revealing truth, driving out evil and bringing hope and life.
Prayer
Dear God, You are good and full of life and love. We long to live in peace with our families, thrive in our communities and know the joy of God. Thank You that our souls have a voice before You and that You honor our choices. We agree with Your ways today. Where our souls entertain darkness or are deceived, would You show us that we may repent? May we come into full resonance with all that is pure and good and full of life. Forgive us for the ways we rebel against You and heal our souls and our land. Amen.
